The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

It might not have been at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life without fear.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the character of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
