Both are being considered with the coaching position at the Scottish champions following Brendan Rodgers' resignation on the start of the week. The Manager's Position on Celtic The Ipswich boss described the Glasgow giants as "an enormous football club" but emphasized he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town. The 39-year-old took charge of Ipswich in recent years and led them to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they managed only four games last season as they were relegated back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in the Championship. "There have been such discussions," the English capital native former Irish young player said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist. "It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my concentration is this week. "I have a special job here at a special club. And we're at a really important stage of the campaign. Everything external hasn't reached my radar." Context and Agreement Details It has been suggested that McKenna would be willing to talk to Celtic given his boyhood allegiances. "During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about these. "It's unlikely all people has to publicly and announce what they were, but of course it's a massive football club." The coach signed a fresh four-year contract in 2024 and was questioned about his alleged buyout clause. "In every manager's contract, there are things," he responded. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, if I did, I wouldn't disclose you anyway! "I tackle this job like I will remain Town's coach forever. I know that's not always going to be the situation, but I will consistently give maximum effort as long as I am here." The Welsh Coach's Position The former striker played for Celtic on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Wales forward is minded to complete the ongoing global tournament campaign, a stance that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from assuming the Glasgow position. The Welsh squad are presently third in their qualifying group behind leaders Belgium and second-placed North Macedonia. Victories over the minnows and North Macedonia in next month would book their place in the qualification play-offs, but they are all but assured of reaching that stage, due to a productive European competition campaign, should they fail to finish as Group J runners-up. Considering his current stance, the Wales manager, whose contract expires after Euro 2028, would not be available until after the play-offs at the minimum.
