Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and continuing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces. Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any damage is not yet known and the American officials has not commented. Missile Defenses Activated In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies. In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East. Iran's Declared Retaliation The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday. That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations linked to the the regime, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the government. Regional Fallout In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran. The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles". "UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued. Officials reported wreckage fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian. The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
