Alexandros Kyziridis' fine strike and Lawrence Shankland's penalty gave Derek McInnes' side a 3-1 lead that the reigning champions could not overcome. Dane Murray - one of three youngsters in the Celtic XI - scored an own goal early on to put the home side ahead at a bouncing their home ground, and it was the 22-year-old's foul that led to the penalty. Callum McGregor's classy first goal of the season had quickly cancelled out Hearts' opener, and Benjamin Nygren almost put Rodgers' team in front, choosing placement over power and allowing Alexander Schwolow to make a crucial stop. But the unstoppable Hearts side regained dominance to consign Celtic to successive league defeats for the initial occasion since last year. It also gives the Hearts a significant lead at the top of the table. The previous occasion they were this far ahead was in the 2005-2006 season under George Burley, when they ended as runners-up - one of just four occasions that a team has failed to win the title having held such a lead in the past 27 years. McInnes, whose Aberdeen side were second to Celtic on multiple times, has been at pains to play down championship discussions, as the club seek their first top-flight crown since 1960. The Celtic boss has seen it all before at Celtic - both flawless and stuttering starts to a season. He's never ended as runner-up. But on Sunday's evidence, this Hearts team showed they deserve serious consideration. Analysis: Hearts Capitalize of Weakened Celtic Hearts started with the confidence of a side undefeated in the league this season - fans' favourite Kyziridis delivered a ball for the striker to stab wide. The Glasgow team didn't help themselves with some unusual sloppiness in possession and they buckled under their first real examination. A headed effort from Braga was tipped onto the woodwork by Kasper Schmeichel and the follow-up from Shankland was turned into the net by the unfortunate Murray, in for the injured Cameron Carter-Vickers. The away side grew into the contest and started stringing passes together. From one such move, the midfielder released the full-back to square for McGregor, who slotted home. Apart from the Nygren chance, Celtic found it hard to generate chances for lone frontman Jonny Kenny or his replacement Shin Yamada amid the absence of stricken attackers Kelechi Iheanacho and Daizen Maeda. Hearts rediscovered their energy and versatility in creating chances in the opposition half. The Greek forward, a standout performer of the club's relationship with shareholder Tony Bloom's Jamestown Analytics, fired a low shot past the goalkeeper from the edge of the box. Almost straight away, the defender tripped the midfielder in the right side of the box and Shankland converted. And it could've been an even more handsome win, had replacement Ageu not been stopped by Schmeichel. Celtic's second half was somewhat summed up in two incidents involving big-money recruit Engles. The set-piece from Engles delivery was in sharp opposition to his midweek exploits in the Europa League win over Sturm Graz and the Belgium international was then booked for a professional foul. What They Said The Hearts manager: "The effort from the squad is evident, the team spirit. That's not sufficient on its own to win games consistently. "What we have got, is skillful players. You're witnessing it from multiple individuals who have been here previously. Recent additions are eager to show that. "We've got a good thing going at the minute, but it's just one win. It's crucial for us to keep winning. We've got loads to do, loads to do. Following the initial fixtures is normally an indication of your standing." The Celtic boss: "It's a really poor goal from our perspective. We failed to push up when the ball went back as a defensive unit so when they play it, they should have players offside but didn't. We have got to do better with the shot. "There's still so many points to play for. It's still so early. It's only nine games in. Obviously, being eight points behind is not what we would want. The comfort is there's so many games to play. "Our attention must turn on the present and look to find more consistency and better performance in our play." What's Next for Both Sides?
